About the Authors

We are Nancy Burgon and Todd Wells, a retired couple in our seventies, who live on the Deschutes River about 20 miles south of Bend, Oregon. Nancy is a retired elementary teacher in international schools, and Todd is a retired geographer with conservation organizations.

Central Oregon is blessed with a diversity of public lands upon which to recreate, all within a day’s drive of the major population centers. However, overcrowding at popular recreation sites has become a pressing concern, especially on weekends. In this blog, we focus on lesser-known and more out-of-the-way features of the Central Oregon landscape, where pubic lands can still be enjoyed in relative solitude.
